We are an established care provider who provide short and long-term residential services for children aged 11-18 with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our homes have all recently been awarded Good or Outstanding by Ofsted and due to the opening of two new residential care homes, we are recruiting for multiple positions.


Your aim whilst caring for our looked after children in our children’s home will be to build trusting positive relationships and a nurturing environment that replaces a family home.

This role is unique. With training and support you will develop the skills required to embed our therapeutic approach and support the children to live in an environment which is not only safe and nurturing but also enables the growth and development of our looked after children.

Main duties & responsibilities:


Our role is to prepare the young people in our residential homes for life after care, ensuring that they all have the necessary skills and knowledge to live independently and lead meaningful and rewarding adult lives. It is our role to safeguard them whilst in our care, dealing with a manner of risks and challenging behaviour associated with young people who have often suffered trauma and loss.


·       Operate within the spirit and framework of the Children’s Act 1989 and ensure that the Home complies with all of the requirements of the current Regulations and Standards


·       Assist the Homes Manager in the implementation of Service Policies, Practices and Procedures, ensuring the Home operates according to its designated task and function related to the Statement and Purpose


·       To cover rotas and make sure the home is staffed effectively at all times, deputising where required in the Managers absence


·       To identify the developmental and training needs of Home staff. To help the Homes Manager facilitate the improvement of skills and knowledge using direct and indirect coaching and training in consultation/conjunction with the Therapeutic Coordinator and psychologist.


·       To create a high quality, caring, child centred environment in which personal growth is encouraged, individual needs identified and met and where a care plan is formulated for each child/young person. This will include direct involvement in the care and support for young people.


·       To follow Children’s Homes standards, regulations and SCIF by effectively leading the team in order that those standards are achieved.


·       To ensure that the Home works with children/young persons and their families to maintain the child/young person’s link with home, school, friends and other relations and to work positively towards the child/young person’s return home where this is consistent with their welfare and safety.


·       To prepare for and co-operate with inspections conducted by the Ofsted.


·       To assist the Homes Manager with implementing the Action Plan in response to inspection reports, Monitoring visits and Regulation 44 Visit reports.

        

·       To ensure that allegations or suspicions of abuse are responded to quickly and in line with Child Protection Procedures.


·       To assist the Homes Manager ensuring completion to the expected standard of Care Plans, Ramps, Review Reports, Monthly Reports, Input into Psychological Reports, Positive Behaviour Programme, The Homes Business Contingency Plan, The Homes Location Risk Assessment (Community Mapping), Annexe A update, Risk Assessments


·       Facilitate debriefs with the young people after an Incident, Restraint or Significant Event ensuring their feelings are recorded and advocating open communication to aid the Young People to use this as a positive learning experience.

 

·       To attend and chair where necessary or in the absence of the Homes Manager meetings both internal and external to the home, as appropriate.

 

·       To assist with the production of Policy and Procedure and Practice documents in relation to your role within the Home.


·       To review and update administrative systems and maintain an organised and efficient office for the use of all staff. To aid good communication within the Home.


·       To identify training and developmental requirements of staff in line with individual job specification and development plans providing on the job coaching and training as and when required

 

·       To undertake such other duties of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Homes Manager, including deputising in the absence of the Homes Manager.


·       To take responsible steps to ensure good relationships with neighbours and the wider community

           

 

Personal skills & abilities required:


·       Caring. flexible and responsive in order to meet our Young People’s needs, which may change day to day and over time

·       Have experience of working in an EBD young people’s residential home

·       Sound knowledge of residential guidelines including; Quality Standard, Care Standards Act, Children’s Home Regulations, Children’s Act and Ofsted

·       Experience of leading staff and decision making in a residential setting

·       Ability to deal with conflict/crisis situations effectively and in a therapeutic manner, when managing young people and staff

·       Respectful, honest, fair, trustworthy and reliable

·       Hardworking, adaptable, and innovative in your attitude to work

·       Communicate clearly and precisely with your colleagues, Young People, their family, friends and representatives, and other professionals

·       Good IT literacy

·       Hold a full driving license

·       Hold QCF/NVQ Level 3 (ideally level 5) with Children & Young People, training will be given
